Burros Tail

6 inch Hanging Basket

Sedum Morganianum, also known as donkey tail plant, is a succulent characterized by trailing stems adorned with fleshy, blue-green leaves. The leaves are densely packed along the stems, giving the plant a lush and cascading appearance. Each leaf is cylindrical and succulent, capable of storing water, which makes the plant drought-tolerant and ideal for arid conditions. This succulent is native to Mexico and thrives in bright indirect light or partial shade. It prefers well-draining soil and infrequent watering to prevent root rot.

Burro's Tail produces pink or reddish flowers in late summer or early fall. These tiny, star-shaped blooms add a touch of color to the trailing stems, although the plant is primarily grown for its attractive foliage.

Overall, Burro's Tail is a charming and easy-to-care-for succulent, perfect for adding a touch of greenery to hanging baskets, containers, or rock gardens. Its unique appearance and low-maintenance nature make it a popular choice among succulent enthusiasts.

Light: Place in bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade. Protect from intense afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.

  1. Soil: Use well-draining soil mix tailored for succulents or cacti to prevent waterlogging, as soggy soil can lead to root rot.
  2. Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In the growing season (spring to fall), water thoroughly when the soil is dry to the touch, but reduce watering in winter. Overwatering can lead to the leaves becoming mushy and falling off.
  3. Temperature: Keep in a warm environment with temperatures between 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). Protect from frost and cold drafts.
  4. Humidity: Burro's Tail prefers average to low humidity levels. Avoid misting the leaves directly, as this can cause them to rot.
  5. Fertilizing: Fertilize sparingly with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring to summer) to promote healthy growth.
  6. Pruning: Trim leggy or damaged stems to encourage bushier growth. Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to make cuts.
  7. Propagation: Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callus for a few days before planting in well-draining soil.
  8. Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container. Choose a slightly larger pot with drainage holes and fresh succulent potting mix.
  9. Pests and Diseases: Keep an eye out for signs of pests like mealybugs or aphids. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Watch for signs of overwatering, such as yellowing leaves or mushy stems, and adjust watering accordingly.
